FAQs
What age can my child start martial arts?
Children can start as young as 4 years old in our Mini Masters program, designed specifically for ages 4 to 7. This program focuses on building confidence, discipline, and motor skills in a fun, supportive environment. After age 7, students join our family classes, where everyone trains together, fostering a sense of unity and growth. You’re never too old either, why not join in yourself? Families that kick together stick together!
What happens if we miss a class?
No problem! We offer make-up classes to ensure you or your child can stay on track with training. Simply contact us to schedule a make-up session.
Why should I choose Masters Path Karate?
Masters Path Karate goes above and beyond other schools in Calgary. We are internationally backed, certified, and sanctioned to teach Tang Soo Do. Our unique online learning portal adds incredible value, providing resources beyond the dojang (training room). We teach more than kicks and punches, we mentor our students for success in all areas of life.
How long does it take to earn a black belt?
Students can earn a black belt in as little as 2.5 to 3 years with consistent training. However, we believe that martial arts is a journey, not a race. The focus is on mastering skills and character development, rather than rushing to the next level.
What is the difference between Tang Soo Do karate and Taekwondo?
At Masters Path Karate, we practice Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean karate that focuses on the whole art, including joint locks, throws, grappling, and complete character development. Tang Soo Do also incorporates all the powerful kicks of Taekwondo, but with an emphasis on self-defence and mastery over point scoring in sport. Taekwondo, on the other hand, is a sport derived from Tang Soo Do. However, we do also compete at Masters Path Karate on an international stage.
Will martial arts make my child more violent?
No, martial arts often have the opposite effect. Our training emphasizes respect, discipline, and self-control, which helps children become calmer and more focused. Many parents notice improvements in their child’s behaviour both at home and school.
